About Us
Hopskotch was formed by Josh Mitikulena (Triple8Funk, Boyz In Growth) and Kat Walker (Triple8Funk) at the end of 2007 after they had both finished 5th in the World Hip Hop Champs that year. Hopskotch was started as a community-driven short term project based crew that concentrated on several dance projects each year.
Now Hopskotch is comprised of two main companies "Hopskotch Dance Crew" and "Hopskotch Bboy Crew". Although they are still very much community driven, Josh and Kat have decided to make the goals for Hopskotch long term. Hoping to develop Hopskotch into a company of international standard. Most importantly they're still aiming to bring up and teach people irrespective of skill level or background.
Hopskotch have performed and contributed a great deal to the Aotearoa hip hop dance scene in a short space of time through performing at benefit concerts & fundraisers, running their own primary and intermediate school tours, competing in major hip hop competitions, taking workshops and even running their own hip hop dance events and jams(e.g. Red Bull Garage Battles). With their passionate creativity, original style and unique flavour, the crew has shown to have pushed the boundaries in the hip hop dance aesthetic while trying to maintain the fundamentals of any given dance form they perform.
From showcases and performances to battles and cyphers, Hopskotch have a desire to inspire and motivate people through dance and hope to continue to use their talents to help others.
